This Privacy Policy explains what information MaiPDF ("we", "us") collects when you use the MaiPDF apps (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows) and the maipdf.com / drm.maipdf.com websites, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account or sign in, we process your email address and, for Google sign-in, your name and profile photo. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never stored by us in plain text.
- Device identifier. To enforce per-document device limits, the app generates a device identifier (e.g.
MPD-…) stored on your device and sent to us when opening a protected document.
- Access & security logs. When a protected (.maipdf) document is opened or unlocked, we record the license ID, time, IP address, approximate location (country), device identifier, and — where applicable — the recipient email. This supports access limits, device binding, revocation, and the watermark trace feature used to identify leaks.
- Documents you protect. Document packaging happens on your device. License metadata (not necessarily the full document content) is stored on our servers to enforce access controls.
- Diagnostic data. Basic technical information needed to operate the service (e.g. request logs).
2. How we use information
- To provide account sign-in and the document protection, sharing, and reading features.
- To enforce access limits, device binding, expiry, and revocation you configure.
- To provide watermark tracing so you can identify who opened a leaked document.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
3. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that operate the product on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication and related backend services.
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security infrastructure.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and service.
4. Data retention
We keep account and access-log data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal requirements. You can request deletion as described below.
5. Your choices & rights
- You can access or update your account information in the app.
- You can request a copy of your data or deletion of your account and associated records by contacting us.
- You can sign out at any time to stop the app from sending account-linked data.
6. Anti-screenshot & watermarking
Protected documents may display a visible watermark and the apps apply platform anti-capture protections. Watermark trace records (see Section 1) exist so document owners can identify the source of a leaked screenshot.
7. Children
MaiPDF is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
